Abstract:

The Efficient Monitoring of IT Equipment: A Barcode-Based Inventory Management Approach, tackles key issues in IT resource management, such as equipment misplacement and inefficiencies in manual inventory tracking, which often result in inaccurate records and hinder effective monitoring. To overcome these challenges, a barcode-based inventory system was developed using the Modified Waterfall Model, aiming to improve accuracy, streamline processes, and reduce errors. The system was tested by IT experts, yielding impressive results: a perfect score of 5.0 for managing peripheral devices and 4.75 for handling borrowed equipment, highlighting its efficiency in critical areas. However, the feature for deleting photos scored 4.33, pointing to a need for improvement due to the absence of a confirmation prompt, which increased the likelihood of accidental deletions. Feedback from users confirmed the system’s ability to enhance tracking accuracy and maintenance scheduling while reducing dependency on error-prone manual processes. Suggestions for future upgrades include refining the dashboard interface for better usability, incorporating a confirmation prompt for deletions with tools like SweetAlert, and optimizing barcode functionality to further boost system performance. These results illustrate the potential of automated inventory management systems in addressing IT equipment monitoring challenges, particularly within educational institutions. By establishing a solid groundwork for future innovations, this study demonstrates how technology can transform IT resource management, minimizing errors and enhancing accountability in a meaningful and practical way.
